Mortgage Fraud and Vacant Property Crime The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is offering training and technical assistance (TTA) for state and local agencies and organizations that need help in their efforts to prevent, investigate and prosecute mortgage fraud and crimes associated with vacant properties. Web Based Human Trafficking Course As part of the DHS Blue Campaign to combat human trafficking, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) developed a web-based human trafficking training course that teaches state, local, campus, and tribal law enforcement officers how to recognize human trafficking encountered during routine duties, how to protect victims, and how to initiate human trafficking investigations. Announcing "The Beat" Podcast Series The audio podcast series, "The Beat" is funded by DOJ's COPS Office and developed at SPC's Center for Public Safety Innovation in St. Petersburg, FL. One of the many projects the CPSI Multimedia division is involved in is "The Beat", a podcast series for the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). They tasked CPSI with creating podcasts aimed at keeping law enforcement in the know. CPSI has been involved since October 2010 and every month we explore a different area of interest to the community policing world. If you get a chance, please visit the COPS website and listen to "The Beat". 2012 Herman Goldstein Awards Information The Center for Problem-Oriented Policing has announced a call for submissions for the 2012 Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing. BJA Launches Online Grant Writing and Management Academy The Academy offers online self-paced modules to criminal justice practitioners and state, local, and tribal jurisdictions who apply for or receive federal grants. The Florida Modern Day Slavery Museum A cargo truck outfitted as a replica of the trucks involved in a recent slavery operation (U.S. v.
